Job summary

Public Sector People is partnering with a local government organisation to appoint a Waste Project Officer for a 3-6 month contract with an immediate start. The role focuses on coordinating waste management projects across domestic, commercial, and community programs in NSW, with an hourly pay rate of $50-55 plus super.

You will manage grants, RFQs and tenders, oversee budgets and reporting, liaise with internal teams and stakeholders, and support community engagement and policy improvements.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in an admin support role within local government or politically sensitive environment.
  • Tertiary qualifications and substantial experience in waste management or related field.
  • Current Class C Driver's Licence.
  • Experience delivering major waste projects focused on recovery and reduction.
  • Experience in waste education and community awareness programs.
  • Experience managing external contractors and consultants.
  • Strong ability to prepare RFQs and tenders.
  • Proven capability to secure and manage grant funding.
  • Strong organisational, project and financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to work with internal teams, contractors, consultants and government stakeholders.
  • Sound knowledge of the waste industry and emerging trends.
  • Previous experience with TechOne, Content Manager/TRIM, Authority or Pathway highly regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate waste management projects across domestic, commercial, illegal dumping, litter reduction and community awareness programs.
  • Manage grant applications, project delivery, reporting and acquittals.
  • Prepare RFQs and tenders and coordinate contractors and consultants.
  • Manage project budgets, grant funding and financial reporting.
  • Prepare reports in line with Council's delivery plan and financial requirements.
  • Liaise with internal teams, NSROC, EPA and other external stakeholders on waste-related projects.
  • Coordinate annual waste and recycling audits across the LGA.
  • Research and contribute to improvements in waste management policies, processes and technologies.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation using CRM and HP TRIM.
  • Support community engagement and communication around waste management projects.
