Job summary

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is seeking Waste Operators to manage daily operations at Bungendore or Braidwood waste transfer stations. This permanent, part-time role runs 32–34 hours weekly with a 4-day pattern (Fri–Mon) across sites.

You will operate and maintain plant, handle waste collection, and process transactions for fees while delivering excellent service to customers and promoting safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Undertake the daily operations of Council’s waste facilities, waste collection and illegal dumping responses.

• Facilitate financial transactions for fees and charges related to waste services.
• Interact with customers to enhance the experience at waste facilities.

The Package

4 day working week with annual salary of approximately $81,244.80 - $93,253.16 inclusive of penalty rates + 12% super. (Evaluated as Grade 6 of the QPRC Salary System 2026) and Award increases of 4% in 2027-28 and 4% in 2028-2029.

Permanent, Part time – 32-34 hours per week depending on site location. Work pattern consists of Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday shifts.

The Waste Branch is seeking motivated individuals to provide an essential service to our community through our waste facilities and ancillary services. Based at either the Bungendore or Braidwood Waste Transfer Stations, our Waste Operators deliver excellent customer service, provide safe and efficient operations and positive environmental outcomes.

In this role you will

• Undertake the daily operations of Council’s waste facilities, waste collection and illegal dumping responses.


• Operate and maintain Council’s plant and equipment. Practical experience in plant operation is highly regarded but not essential. We will train you to become a competent operator.


• Facilitate financial transactions for fees and charges related to waste services.


• Interact with our customers and add value to the customer experience at our waste facilities.

We are looking for someone who

• Has previous experience in frontline services in a complex operational environment


• Has outstanding communication and customer service skills.


• Has an interest in waste management and the environment and is highly motivated to learn new skills.


• Possesses a current class ‘C’ driver’s licence.
