Job summary

Glenorchy City Council in Hobart seeks a Waste Operations and Plant Operator to support safe and efficient delivery of Council's waste services. The role involves operating litter collection vehicles, landfill plant, collecting waste, supporting resource recovery, and maintaining kerbside bins.

The Jackson Street Waste Management Centre operates seven days a week; weekend and public holiday work may be required. Penalty rates apply under the Enterprise Agreement.

Qualifications

• Experience in waste, landfill, resource recovery or comparable operations.
• Ability to undertake physical and manual duties and operate heavy plant safely.
• Good time management, initiative and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate plant, machinery, vehicles and associated equipment safely.
• Collect and transport waste from Council facilities and public spaces.
• Support landfill and resource recovery operations.
• Assist customers and direct traffic within operational areas.
• Sort and manage reusable and recyclable materials.
• Deliver, repair and maintain kerbside waste, recycling and FOGO bins.
• Maintain accurate operational records.
• Contribute to a safe, clean and well-organised workplace.
