Job summary

The City of Hobart is hiring a Waste Driver Side Loader in the City Resilience and Waste Operations group. Based in Hobart, this permanent full-time position involves safe operation of side and rear loading vehicles and delivering reliable rubbish and recycling collection services for the city.

The role requires autonomous work, strong customer service, and the ability to work weekends/holidays, with a clear focus on safety and teamwork within the Waste Operations Team.

Qualifications

• Completion of Year 10, or Certificate III in Waste Management or Asset Maintenance (Waste Operations), or the willingness and ability to obtain the relevant qualification within 12 months of commencement.
• Demonstrated competency in operating medium mobile plant.
• Experience driving side loader and rear loader vehicles.
• The ability to read and understand maps, work rosters, daily works programs and run sheets.
• The ability to work autonomously and complete tasks within specified timeframes.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to teamwork and customer service.
• Availability to work rostered and un-rostered weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring mobile garbage and recycling bins are emptied correctly and returned to designated areas, including picking up any spilled material.
• Operating and maintaining plant and equipment, including side and rear loading collection vehicles.
• Performing duties in accordance with Safe Work Method Statements and operating procedures.
• Providing high quality customer service while undertaking duties and functions.
• Communicating effectively with employees, contractors and members of the public.
• Ensuring services are performed safely and in environmentally sustainable ways.
• Collaborating with the Waste Operations Team to support continuous improvement.
