Job summary

Randstad Pty in Melbourne CBD seeks a VPS3 Finance Officer for a four‑month temp contract with a view to permanency for the right candidate. The role offers hybrid work and pays $51.55-$63.81 per hour plus super, with NSW?

(government) governance and security clearance requirements. Responsibilities include end-to-end AP/AR processing, financial reporting and analysis, policy governance, and stakeholder engagement across Finance and Procurement functions.

Qualifications

• Australian citizenship; willing to undergo Negative Vetting 1 security clearance (mandatory).
• Minimum 3 years’ experience owning and performing end-to-end accounts payable in government sector.
• Experience in preparing AP/AR reports and analysis; familiarity with government financial governance.

Responsibilities

• AP/AR management: end-to-end processing; ensure payment terms compliance; reconcile vendor/customer statements.
• Financial compliance & policy governance: adhere to Financial Management Act 1994 and Standing Directions.
• Financial reporting & transaction analysis: monitor daily transactions; maintain dashboards; monthly reporting with commentary.
• Systems & administrative support: manage finance systems, contract records, corporate cards, banking setups, and vendor databases.
• Process improvement & project delivery: contribute to process updates and finance-related projects.
• Stakeholder engagement & service delivery: build relationships across Finance, Procurement, and Divisional customer service charters.
• Operational support & ad-hoc duties: maintain financial procedures; provide flexible support.

About the Role

Our client is a VIC state government organisation based in the Melbourne CBD. They are currently seeking a VPS3 Finance Officer to come in and work with them on a temp contract for 4 months with a view to permanency for the right candidate

Requirements for the role include:

• Australian citizenship and willing to undergo Negative Vetting 1 security clearance process (mandatory).
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in owning and performing end-to-end accounts payable function in the government sector.
• Experience in preparing accounts payable and receivable reports and analysis.
• Experience in using Microsoft Dynamics or Business Central accounting software.

Key responsibilities include:

• Accounts Payable & Receivable Management: Oversee accurate, end-to-end AP/AR processing, ensuring compliance with payment terms and resolving discrepancies via vendor and customer statement reconciliations.
• Financial Compliance & Policy Governance: Ensure strict adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and statutory requirements, including the Standing Directions under the Financial Management Act 1994.
• Financial Reporting & Transaction Analysis: Monitor daily transactions, maintain financial dashboards, and prepare monthly AP/AR reporting with meaningful commentary and analysis.
• Systems & Administrative Support: Manage day-to-day administration and maintenance of finance systems, contract records, corporate credit cards, banking setups, and vendor databases.
• Process Improvement & Project Delivery: Proactively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, business process updates, and finance-related projects to drive operational efficiency.
• Stakeholder Engagement & Service Delivery: Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders in alignment with Finance, Procurement, and Divisional customer service charters.
• Operational Support & Ad-Hoc Duties: Maintain and update relevant financial procedures and policy documentation, providing flexible operational support and additional duties as required.
