Job summary

NSW Health in Tamworth is seeking an Enrolled Nurse – StEPS Vision Screener to join the Statewide Eyesight Preschooler Screening (StEPS) program. Permanent part-time role based at Tamworth Community Health Building; travel across the Hunter New England Health District with 18 hours per week.

You will perform monocular vision screening for 4–5 year olds in childcare centres, preschools and clinics, maintain equipment, document results and educate families.

Qualifications

• Current registration with AHPRA as an Enrolled Nurse.
• Valid Class C Driver's Licence and willingness to travel locally.
• Experience working with children and understanding child development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships with families, educators and health professionals.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently.
• Confidence using computer systems and program-specific databases.

Responsibilities

• Travel to preschools, childcare centres and community clinics within the area.
• Set up, operate and maintain vision screening equipment.
• Review consent forms and confirm eligibility for screening.
• Conduct monocular vision screening for 4–5 year olds.
• Document screening outcomes and follow referral pathways.
• Educate parents, carers and educators about vision health.
• Build positive relationships with families and schools.
• Maintain accurate records using electronic systems.
• Work independently within a supportive team.
