Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference for victims of crime? As a Victim Liaison Service Coordinator (VLS Coordinator), you'll oversee service delivery, and provide leadership, training and mentoring to Victim Liaison Officers (VLO) located throughout the prosecution chambers across the state. This position will have a focus on North and Central Queensland and be the point of contact for a variety of stakeholder groups including Protect All Children Today (PACT), Queensland Homicide Victims Support Service, Queensland Courts and the Queensland Police Service.

About us:

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a vital part of Queensland's justice system, representing the State in prosecuting criminal matters across courts such as the High Court of Australia, Supreme Court, District Court, and more. Our work addresses complex and sensitive legal matters, ensuring justice is upheld with professionalism and integrity.

About your opportunity:

This is an exciting temporary, flexible full-time opportunity from 4 January 2027 for a period of 7 months, with possibility of extension. This role can be completed from any of our Far North Queensland regions (Townsville, Cairns or Rockhampton), however, some travel will be required. As a Victim Liaison Service Coordinator you will:

  • Oversee service delivery in accordance with the Charter of Victims' Rights, Director's Guidelines and the guidance documents for prosecuting sexual violence and domestic and family violence offences.
  • Ensure VLOs deliver quality services in accordance with relevant legislation, guidelines and frameworks, with particular focus on compliance with the ODPP's Victim Liaison Manual and take action to address deficits.
  • Provide professional supervision of VLOs in the region, and provide mentoring, coaching and training opportunities, that lead to continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including with other staff in the VLS, local chamber based legal practitioners and regional victims' advocacy and support services.
  • Represent the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions at regional crime and victim support forums and report on outcomes to the State Manager.
  • Initiate contact with victims of violent crimes and assist them through the legal process as required and monitor the accuracy and timeliness of correspondence sent to parties to the prosecution process including victims, their families and police officers.
  • Ensure processes and procedures in regional offices are consistent, standardised and efficient, by adapting modern ways of working and digital by default

What we're looking for:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the interaction between victims of personal violence and the Criminal Justice System, including knowledge of or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of applicable legislation.
  • Possess well-developed interpersonal and written skills, including the ability to liaise and consult effectively with internal and external stakeholders and apply cultural capabilities in a frontline work environment.
  • Sound knowledge of trauma informed practice and the application of principles that enforce and support trauma informed engagement with victims of crime.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop reports, submissions and statistical analysis, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Advanced organisational skills, including the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines in a high-pressure work environment.
  • Possess strong and effective leadership skills including the ability to motivate, mentor and build the capability of victim liaison officers in a geographically dispersed region.
  • Demonstrated strong ethics, integrity, and support for the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.

This is more than a role; it's your opportunity to engage with some of the state's most pressing legal matters while making a genuine difference in the community. Think you're ready for the challenge?
