Job summary

University of Sydney is seeking a qualified Veterinary Nurse for the Surgery service at UVTHS. You will support clinical teaching, nursing care, and surgical activities in a multi-disciplinary Small Animal Surgery team.

The role is based on Camperdown Campus with a base salary of A$82,388 per year plus 17% superannuation and shift loadings, supporting teaching and student learning in a dynamic university hospital.

Qualifications

  • Exciting opportunity to provide best practice veterinary care and student teaching as part of the Small Animal Surgery team, within a multi-discipline specialty hospital

  • Base Salary HEO3 Step 1 (38 hpw) $82,388 p.a. + 17% superannuation + appropriate shift loadings

About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a qualified Veterinary Nurse for our Surgery service. Supporting the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in providing support for clinical teaching and professional nursing assistance with clinical cases.

Your key responsibilities will beto:

  • assist clinicians and veterinary interns with treatments, prepare and assist with clinical procedures

  • provide support for clinical teaching and professional nursing assistance with clinical cases

  • clean and maintain clinical spaces

  • care for and maintain instruments and equipment

  • support student learning, through positive engagement with students in training

  • provide overall high level of nursing care for animals in their respective service

  • undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities as required

  • maintain stock including ordering of consumables and procurement of supplies, and control of stock quantities.

The small animal service at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camperdown (UVTHS) operates in:

  • a small animal specialist veterinary practice

  • a wide range of all medical,surgical and emergent problems

  • second opinion cases

  • access to advanced equipment and imaging.

As well as providing gold standard patient care, UVTHS provides an invaluable teaching experience for our final year veterinary students. You will work closely with Specialists, residents and interns in all fields.

About you
  • a Veterinary Nursing Certificate IV (or equivalent) and advanced veterinary nursing experience in a veterinary specialist hospital environment

  • ability to communicate with academics, veterinary professionals, and veterinary students

  • a passion and drive to provide teaching opportunities to students and junior staff

  • ability to cope with caseloads in a busy working environment

  • relevant knowledge and commitment to provide excellent surgical care and handling to our patients

  • demonstrated experience with using technical and medical surgical equipment and training in anaesthesia, radiography, and drug dispensing

  • demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team

  • a willingness and ability to work rostered shifts, Monday to Friday.
