Job summary

Sydney Animal Hospitals Newtown is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Nurse to join our Erskineville roster. You’ll handle surgical, medical and client-care duties in a busy small animal practice with in-house imaging and orthopaedic support.

Qualifications

• This role requires a Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years' experience working as a veterinary nurse.
• Excellent client communication skills are essential.
• Experience with dentistry, anaesthesia and surgical cases.
• Comfortable with digital X-ray and fast-paced settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing support across surgical, medical and client-care shifts.
• Assist with orthopaedic procedures and post-operative care as needed.
• Manage workflow for surgery and patients before, during and after procedures.
• Contribute to pain relief and nutrition guidance during nurse consultations.

Veterinary Nurse Wanted – Sydney Animal Hospitals Newtown

We're a friendly, fun and diverse team, and we'd love to welcome a veterinary nurse to join us!

We’re a well-equipped, busy small animal practice, proud to provide our community with a high standard of veterinary and client care. Our team has access to in-house orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeons, advanced imaging, and all the usual in-house equipment.

About us:

We're based in Erskineville, close to public transport and the Sydney CBD, and we see a great mix of medical, surgical and emergency cases.

Our team includes a 4-5 vet day, 7 lovely nurses, and our animal attendants.

We keep our technology up to date and invest in training our staff well.

We're proud of the high standard of care we provide for every patient and their owner.

We're open 7:00am-11:00pm Monday to Thursday, 7:00am-9:00pm on Friday, and 7:00am-6:00pm on weekends.

Best of all, no after-hours work, so you can properly switch off.

About the position:

This is a full-time role - 40 hours a week, with 1 in 5 Saturdays worked and a rostered day off the following Monday, so you always get two days off in a row.

You'll enjoy a nice variety of surgical, medical and customer care shifts.

We share public holiday shifts fairly - around 2 a year, 9am-6pm.

Rosters go up a month ahead, so you can plan your life outside work too.

Desired Skills:

A great team player, but just as comfortable working independently.

Real care and confidence handling animals, following fear-free principles.

Comfortable with digital X-ray.

Experience with emergency cases.

Confident running nurse consultations, including laser therapy and nutrition advice.

Skilled at drawing blood and running in-house IDEXX diagnostics.

Experience with catheter placement.

Experience with anaesthesia and surgical cases.

Know-how to manage the flow of surgery and patients - before, during and after.

Experience with dentistry.

Keen to take on orthopaedic procedures - don't worry, we'll provide training as needed.

A successful applicant will have:

A Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent.

At least 2 years' experience working as a veterinary nurse.

Great communication skills with clients - this one's essential.

Knowledge of RxWorks and Smartflow is a bonus.

You're comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
