Job summary

Greater Springfield Veterinary in Springfield QLD is seeking a qualified veterinary nurse (Cert IV / Vet Tech) for a maternity contract (6 months) with potential extension. You will support veterinarians, assist in anaesthesia, surgical prep, radiography, and patient care, working across our three small animal hospitals.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV, Vet Tech or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of hands-on industry experience.

About The Role:

Your expertise, compassion, and attention to detail will be instrumental in supporting our veterinarians, providing education and support to pet owners, and ensuring the smooth functioning of our hospitals.

Our veterinary nurses are highly skilled and utilised across the full scope of clinical practice.

You will be actively involved in anaesthesia, surgical preparation and monitoring, radiography, pathology, catheter placement, blood collection, hospital patient care, emergency triage, dentistry, medication administration, client education, and recovery nursing.

One of our hospitals operates extended hours (open until 8pm), which means we see a significant number of urgent presentations alongside our regular general practice caseload. It gives our nurses exposure to a broad and interesting range of cases, without the overnight shifts that generally come with an ECC environment.

We don’t expect you to know everything (we’ll happily guide and support you). We do expect you to communicate, take responsibility for your work, ask for help when you need it and contribute positively to the team around you.

Collaborate with the veterinary team to ensure seamless patient care.

Proactively advocate for patients, using clinical judgement to support best‑practice care and positive outcomes.

Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and procedures.

Provide support to junior team members, building confidence and positive teamwork.

Conduct nurse consultations and provide education to pet owners about preventatives, post‑treatment care, and medications.

We're Looking For:

Certificate IV, Vet Tech, or equivalent.

Flexibility to work a variety of shifts between the hours of 7am and 9pm.

Sound surgical, medical, and practical nursing skills with at least 2 years of hands‑on industry experience.

A commitment to animal welfare and to the standards of our profession.

Great interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional maturity.

Proficiency in computer applications and software, experience with Ascend, Smartflow, VetCheck and IDEXX Machines is beneficial.
