Job summary

Port Authority of New South Wales is seeking a part-time Vessel Traffic Services Officer to help operate a safe and secure port 24/7 on a rotating shift. The role supports coordination of vessel movements and management of traffic using radar, AIS, CCTV and VHF systems.

The position is 18 hours per week, on a rotating shift, for up to 12 months. You will join a team dedicated to safety, compliance, and effective port operations, with opportunities to contribute to emergency response readiness.

Qualifications

• Driver's license and willingness to travel between locations.
• Experience in a maritime environment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate movement of vessels in and around the port maintaining high situational awareness within the Vessel Traffic System coverage area.
• Operate Vessel Traffic Service equipment and systems (radar, AIS, CCTV, VHF, etc.) to monitor and manage traffic.
• Participate in emergency response within and outside the port, including mooring failures, spills, firefighting and search & rescue.
• Coordinate communication between the VTS centre, vessels and port users.
