Job summary

Carborough Downs underground Bord and Pillar mine in Queensland seeks a Ventilation Officer to ensure safe and compliant ventilation operations. You will work with the Technical Services Superintendent to maintain peak ventilation performance and safety standards across the underground network.

Role requires statutory expertise, budgeting, contractor oversight, and development of ventilation models in line with mine schedules, ensuring SHMS alignment and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Underground ventilation experience in Bord and Pillar operations.
• Strong knowledge of SHMS documentation and safety standards.
• Contractor management and ventilation budgeting experience.

Responsibilities

• Own all statutory and legislative requirements for the ventilation role.
• Ensure ventilation system compliance and performance at all times.
• Implement and maintain the mine ventilation system.
• Provide technical instruction to the mine team.
• Prepare ventilation models aligned with mine schedules.
• Manage changes to the ventilation network.
• Prepare ventilation budgets and oversee expenditure.
• Oversee contractor management and related duties.
• Manage the tube bundle gas monitoring system.
• Develop sealing management plans and risk controls.
• Support SHMS documentation review and implementation.

Carborough Downs underground Bord and Pillar mine is located in Queensland's Bowen Basin, approximately 30km north-east of Moranbah and 160km from Mackay and forms part of the broader Argo Complex. This integrated mining complex includes the Ironbark Longwall Mine and Broadlea Open Cut, as well as a centralised Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP), where collaboration between our sites and teams is key to delivering safe and efficient outcomes.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

The Ventilation Officer role at Carborough Downs presents an exciting opportunity to play a vital part in the safe and efficient operation of a Bord and Pillar underground mine. Working closely with the Technical Services Superintendent, the role combines technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to ensure the underground ventilation system consistently performs to the highest safety standards.

• Own all Statutory and Legislative requirements of the Ventilation Officer role as per related legislation requirements.
• Ensure statutory compliance of the ventilation system.
• Implement and maintain the mines ventilation system.
• Provide technical instruction and feedback to the mine
• Prepare strategic and operationally considered ventilation models in line with mine schedules.
• Manage changes to the ventilation network.
• Prepare ventilation budgets.
• Contractor management.
• Management of the tube bundle gas monitoring system.
• Develop and implement sealing management plans.
• Support the effective review and implementation of relevant SHMS documentation.
