Job summary

Mineral Resources invites applications for an Underground Safety Specialist to support the Mount Marion underground restart and ramp-up. The role is based at Mount Marion, WA, working with operations, contractors and corporate teams to establish a safe system of work aligned with readiness and production targets.

The successful candidate will bring a Diploma in OH&S, Mines Rescue certification, and 5+ years in underground mining, with strong incident investigation and safety management system

Qualifications

• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety required.
• Certificate 3 Mines Rescue essential.
• C Class Drivers Licence required.
• 5+ years in underground mining experience.
• Experience with ICAM or Taproot incident investigations.
• Experience developing and implementing safety management systems.
• Proven ability to apply safety concepts in underground mining.
• Demonstrated leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation and presentation abilities.

The opportunity

As the Underground Safety Specialist, you will play a key technical role in supporting the onsite restart and ramp-up of the underground mine at the Mount Marion Operation, helping support the project through to steady-state production.

This position will commence on an 4D3X roster, flying from Perth.

Reporting to the Manager Safety, this role will work closely with operations, contractors and corporate technical teams to develop and implement a safe system of work that is aligned with operational readiness.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Safety Specialist to share their underground knowledge in what is the first underground project for MinRes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist underground safety leadership and technical guidance throughout the restart and ramp-up phases.
• Support the development and implementation of safety management systems aligned with operational readiness requirements.
• Work collaboratively with operations, project teams, contractors, and corporate stakeholders to identify and manage risk.
• Facilitate critical risk management processes, inspections, audits, and verification activities.
• Monitor compliance with legislative and company requirements relating to underground mining operations.
• Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to the development of safe work procedures, training programs, and operational standards.
• Maintain project risk registers, statutory appointments, safety registers and compliance requirements in line with WA mining legislation and site standards.
• Support underground emergency preparedness and response arrangements.

What Will You Bring

• Occupational Health and Safety (Diploma minimum requirement).
• Cert 3 Mines Rescue
• Current C Class Drivers Licence.
• 5 years + in underground mining
• Incident Investigation and Reporting (ICAM or Taproot).
• Experience in the development and implementation of safety management systems.
• Experience in the practical application of safety in underground mining
• Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.
• Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills.
• Ability to think creatively and laterally.

Mt Marion is located 40km south west of Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. MinRes manages all mining activities at Mt Marion, including a spodumene concentrate processing plant with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tonnes (SC6 equivalent).
