Job summary

Mineral Technologies, part of the Downer Group, is seeking an Undergraduate Process Engineer to gain hands-on experience in mineral processing while completing your degree. Based in Adelaide, SA, you will assist with metallurgical testing, investigations and design activities alongside experienced engineers and metallurgists on projects spanning mineral sands, iron ore and base metals.

In this role you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver quality outcomes for clients.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing Metallurgy or related engineering degree with ≥1 year completed.
  • Available to work at least two days per week.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication abilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with metallurgical test work programs across lab and pilot scales.
  • Support design activities, investigations, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with engineers, metallurgists, clients and suppliers.
  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and close-out activities.
  • Support continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and Zero Harm commitment.

The Opportunity

Ready to put your studies into practice and gain hands‑on industry experience? Join Mineral Technologies as an Undergraduate Process Engineer based in Adelaide, SA and work alongside experienced engineers and metallurgists on projects across the mineral sands, iron ore and base metals sectors. This is an exciting opportunity to build practical skills, contribute to real projects, and gain valuable exposure to mineral processing and process engineering while completing your studies.

In this role, you'll support metallurgical test work programs, assist with technical investigations and process design activities, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver quality outcomes for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with metallurgical test work programs including laboratory, pilot‑scale and industrial‑scale testing
  • Support technical investigations, process design activities and reporting
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, metallurgists, clients and suppliers
  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling, execution and close‑out activities
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and innovation opportunities
  • Champion a strong safety culture and actively contribute to our Zero Harm commitment
What We're Looking For
  • Currently studying Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, or a related Engineering degree, with at least one year of study completed
  • Available to work a minimum of two days per week
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Collaborative attitude, eagerness to learn and strong attention to detail
  • Strong commitment to safety, integrity and teamwork

No prior engineering experience is required, making this an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain meaningful industry experience while completing their degree.
