Wandiyali’s Aboriginal Family Preservation team, known as Turool Malang, supports Aboriginal children and families in the Newcastle region. The Practitioner delivers culturally safe, trauma-informed services focused on keeping children safe at home and connected to culture, community and country.
Role requires collaboration with internal and external partners, engagement with families, risk assessment and safety planning, and contribution to therapeutic interventions and quality assurance

Wandiyali is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation established in Awabakal (Newcastle) in 1997. As the largest accredited Aboriginal provider of Permanency Support Program (PSP) Out-of-Home Care (OOHC) services across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Hunter Region and Port Stephens, Wandiyali is committed to delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed and community-led supports for Aboriginal children, young people and families.
In addition to OOHC services, Wandiyali delivers a broad range of Family Preservation and community support programs, working in partnership with children, young people, families and communities to achieve safe, culturally strong and sustainable outcomes.

Wandiyali’s Aboriginal Family Preservation (AFP) known as Turool Malang, is funded by DCJ and is a key part of the broader child protection system, and wider service system that supports children and families and is considered a key lever in responding to the over representation of Aboriginal children in the foster care system. The primary objective of Turool Malang is keeping Aboriginal children safe at home with their families, connected to Culture, Community and Country.
