Job summary

CatholicCare Sydney is seeking an experienced counsellor to deliver trauma-informed counselling to children, young people and families impacted by trauma, sexual assault and abuse. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, providing direct therapy, assessment and group programs across Lakemba and Lewisham.

The role requires advanced clinical skills, knowledge of child development, and collaboration with schools, community services and families.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling or a related discipline.
• Current registration, membership or accreditation with a relevant professional body (e.g. AASW, PACFA, ACA, AHPRA) or eligibility to obtain registration/membership.
• 2+ years experience providing counselling and therapeutic interventions to children, young people and families.
• Experience with clients impacted by trauma, sexual assault, abuse and/or family violence.
• Knowledge of child development and child protection legislation.
• Experience facilitating groups, workshops or psychoeducational programs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver trauma-informed assessment, counselling and therapeutic interventions for children and young people impacted by trauma and sexual abuse.
• Provide counselling and support to non-offending parents, carers and family members.
• Deliver group programs, psychoeducation and protective behaviours workshops.
• Support young children presenting with sexualised behaviours through advocacy and therapeutic interventions.
• Maintain accurate and timely case records and reporting requirements.
• Participate in clinical supervision, reflective practice and continuous quality improvement activities.
• Build collaborative relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Participate in community engagement and interagency networks.
• Promote culturally safe, inclusive and person-centred service delivery for all clients.
