Job summary

Youth Off The Streets in Maitland, NSW, is seeking a School Counsellor for a part-time role, two days per week (Tuesdays and Fridays), within our school team to support student wellbeing and learning.

You will provide therapeutic counselling, conduct assessments and collaborate with families and school staff to promote positive educational outcomes. NSW WWC check and relevant qualifications are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Counselling or related discipline (AQF Level 7+)
• Minimum 3 years' experience providing counselling to young people, preferably in school or community services
• Experience assisting youth with trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety and other mental health challenges
• Knowledge of therapeutic approaches (CBT, Solution Focused Therapy) and group work
• Experience conducting and interpreting psychometric assessments
• Understanding of adolescent development and child protection issues
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Commitment to culturally safe practice
• Professional membership with ACA, PACFA or similar
• Current NSW Working With Children Check and full Australian working rights

Responsibilities

• Provide therapeutic counselling and wellbeing support to students and families
• Conduct assessments, develop intervention plans, and maintain case notes
• Support students facing trauma and mental health challenges
• Conduct psychometric assessments and prepare reports as required
• Collaborate with families, school staff and external services
• Facilitate individual and group interventions using evidence-based approaches
• Advise school staff on student wellbeing needs
• Promote child safety and mandatory reporting compliance

Education

Bachelor's degree in Counselling or related discipline
