Job summary

Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand in Marrickville, NSW is seeking a Youth Counsellor to support young people aged 12 to 24 with trauma-informed counselling. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, contribute to family capacity building and group programs within the CAFS program, and collaborate with schools and community partners to strengthen pathways and outcomes.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling.
• Experience counselling youth aged 12–24.
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
• Strengths-based, person-centred approach with cultural safety.
• Current Working With Children Check and right to work in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed counselling to youth 12–24 facing mental health or relationship challenges.
• Complete assessments and manage intake/waitlist for timely access to support.
• Support families to strengthen capacity to respond to youth needs.
• Plan, facilitate and evaluate therapeutic and psychoeducational group programs.
• Build relationships with schools and community partners to strengthen pathways.
• Collaborate with stakeholders for safe, client-centred outcomes.
• Maintain accurate case notes and reporting in line with requirements.
• Participate in supervision and ongoing professional development.
• Apply culturally safe and inclusive approaches across service delivery.
• Uphold ethical standards and respect diverse backgrounds.
