Job summary

HCA Youth in Queensland is seeking a compassionate casual Residential Youth Worker to support children in out-of-home care. You will build trusting relationships, manage behaviours linked to trauma, and work across AM/PM/night shifts on a roster.

This role offers stability in a casual environment with emergency shifts and strong supervision. You will assist with daily living, transport, health needs, and participate in trauma-informed care frameworks while collaborating with a multidisciplinary

Qualifications

• Hold a certificate IV in Youth Work, Child, Youth and Family Intervention, Community Services, or equivalent.
• A minimum of 3 months experience in Residential Youth Services, or industry-relevant transferable skills.
• Demonstrated experience in supporting trauma-related challenging behaviours.
• Hold an Australian Drivers Licence (QLD Open Only)
• Possess a Working With Children Check (Blue Card)
• Availability to work across AM/PM/Active night shifts
• Certifications: First Aid & CPR, LCS Personal History Screening, Hope and Healing 10 training

Responsibilities

• Create safety, stability and predictability: Build a safe, trusting relationship with young people and foster a secure, nurturing environment for at-risk youth.
• Empower Daily Living: Assist with personal care, meals, and hygiene to promote independence.
• Facilitate Transportation: Ensure young people attend school, appointments, and community activities.
• Promote Growth: Promote emotional regulation and social connection through structured and unstructured activities.
• Manage Health Needs: Administer medications and maintain accurate reporting.
• Deliver Trauma-Informed Care: Support youth with complex behaviours using trauma-informed approaches and respond to behaviours with empathy, consistency, using a TCI model approach.
• Engage in Therapeutic Practices: Participate in the Trauma Recovery framework and complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) within your first six months.
• Communication: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualised support plans
• Wellbeing: Maintain personal wellbeing and resilience through reflective practice, supervision and self-care strategies
