Job summary

The Salvation Army Australia is seeking an Intake Case Worker for the ACT Central Intake Service. You will deliver trauma-informed intake, assessment, and short-term case coordination to individuals and families facing hardship and housing instability.

Key duties include holistic assessments, goal-focused interventions, and referrals to long-term supports, with data recording in SAMIS/SHIP and effective outreach across modalities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Diploma or significant case-work experience.
  • At least 1 year of case management experience.
  • Trauma-informed practice and understanding of poverty and disadvantage.
  • Culturally safe services, including interpreters and liaison workers.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication for notes/reports.
  • Confidentiality, consent, privacy, safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation in a team.
  • Ability to respond to complex, unpredictable situations.
  • Proficiency in a language other than English.
  • Knowledge of ACT service system, homelessness and financial wellbeing sectors.
  • Familiarity with SAMIS/SHIP or similar systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct holistic assessments using the ACT Shared Practice Framework.
  • Provide brief, goal-oriented interventions such as safety planning and crisis support.
  • Refer clients to long-term supports and follow up as required.
  • Record assessments and client data in systems such as SAMIS or SHIP.
  • Deliver intake services via phone, in-office, and outreach locations.
  • Ensure cultural safety and accessibility across service delivery modes.
  • Confirm client identity, consent, and risk factors through TSA protocols.
  • Maintain knowledge of local referral pathways and eligibility criteria.
  • Work with ACCOs, government agencies and other community services.
  • Participate in inter-agency meetings and shared referral processes.
  • Facilitate warm handovers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Engage in supervision, reflective practice and case reviews.
