The City of Greater Geelong is seeking a Transport Planning professional to provide specialist advice on traffic management, transport planning, and road network activities. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex transport issues and deliver practical solutions for all transport users.

Applicants should have a Civil Engineering qualification or equivalent experience in transport planning, with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

  • A relevant Civil Engineering qualification or equivalent professional experience in transport planning/engineering.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to resolve complex transport issues.
  • National Police Check is preferred and may be required by the City.

  • Review and input into traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes for city roads.
  • Support innovation and best practice to improve customer and community satisfaction.
  • Build effective relationships with colleagues, customers and subject matter experts across the City.
  • Execute, monitor, and report on work progress against plans and budgets to ensure timely delivery.

About the role

In this role, you will provide specialist advice on traffic management, transport planning and road network activities, while contributing to projects and initiatives that improve safety, efficiency and sustainability across Greater Geelong. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex transport issues, support localised investigations and deliver practical solutions for all transport users.

Key responsibilities
  • Contribute to a range of activities in the area of expertise to develop and implement solutions in line with department strategy and plans.
  • Review and provide input into traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes for occupation of or closure of City roads.
  • Support innovation and best practice approach in the department for customer and community satisfaction.
  • Contribute to building effective relationships with other employees, customers and subject matter experts across the City.
  • Execute, monitor, and report on work progress against plans and budgets to ensure timely delivery in line with the relevant regulations and policies.
  • Support routine problem-solving and continuous improvement activities by identifying and addressing gaps and inefficiencies to minimise financial waste.
About you

To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant qualification in Civil Engineering (or other relevant field) or professional experience in transport planning and/or engineering in a comparable organisation.

  • Demonstrated people skills to support, influence, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders.
  • Good problem solving and stakeholder management skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve task outcomes.
  • Demonstrated skills in rationalising information, providing advice and effectively communicating complex transport challenges to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
