Job summary

The Sydney Hospital/Sydney Eye Hospital Transition to Professional Practice Program for Enrolled Nurses is designed to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of first-year Enrolled Nurses, enabling them to provide safe, high-quality patient care within a supported clinical learning environment.

Commencing in February 2026, the 12-month program offers two streams: General Stream and Perioperative Stream, with applicants able to indicate their preferred stream during the application process.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as an Enrolled Nurse.
• Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia approved qualification in medicines administration including IV meds.
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and maintain professional boundaries.
• Current computer skills and ability to use health information systems.
• Advocate for person-centred practice and outcomes.
• Apply evidence-based practice and critical thinking to patient care.
• Prioritise and organise own workload effectively.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality patient care within a supported clinical learning environment.
• Share clinical expertise and develop practice with formal development opportunities.
• Work under direct/indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse and remain accountable.
• Support other nurses and care roles within the interdisciplinary team.
• Contribute to continuous improvement with a focus on person-centred care.
