Job summary

Thales in Sydney is offering a 4-year Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) traineeship located at Garden Island, Woolloomooloo. You’ll begin with hands-on training to install and service naval equipment, with formal studies leading to an Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical).

You'll learn testing, commissioning, fault analysis, and repairs on both commercial and military mechanical systems while developing strong teamwork and safety practices in a defence environment.

Qualifications

• Completed a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade
• Genuine interest in gaining an Advanced Diploma
• Demonstrated mechanical and/or technical aptitude
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse range of people
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, at Heights and in Confined Spaces

Responsibilities

• Installation of various naval equipment in shore and ship-borne environments
• Testing and commissioning of mechanical equipment and systems on naval vessels
• Fault analysis of commercial and military mechanical weapons equipment and systems

Our Above Water Systems team provides engineering & maintenance services to Royal Australian Navy vessels and commercial ships. We’re proud to bolster Australia’s sovereign capability through operational support to our defence partners. YOUR ROLE

Located in Sydney at Woolloomooloo's Garden Island, on Gadigal land your role purpose is to commence and complete a traineeship in Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) which is typically a 4-year traineeship. You will learn to perform a range of work including:

• Installation of all types of naval equipment in shore and ship borne environments

• Testing and commissioning of mechanical equipment and systems on naval vessels

• Fault analysis of commercial and military mechanical weapons equipment and systems

• Conducting repairs to mechanical systems

YOUR EXPERIENCE

As a trainee, we'll expect you to bring the following experience, skills and behaviours:

• Completed a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade

• Genuine interest in gaining an Advanced Diploma

• Demonstrated mechanical and/or technical aptitude

• Strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse range of people

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, at Heights and in Confined Spaces
