Job summary

Cumberland City Council, located 20km west of Sydney, is seeking a Trainee Engineer to support the Design and Technical Services unit with civil engineering design work on roads, drainage and traffic projects.

Reporting to the Executive Engineer Infrastructure Design, you will assist with surveying, design set outs and provide professional advice. This role is a 6-month term contract, full-time, with opportunities to travel across worksites.

Qualifications

• Completed minimum 2 years of Civil Engineering degree.
• Completed surveying unit in undergraduate degree.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and MS applications.
• Knowledge of surveying equipment including Total Station.
• Time Management skills and ability to meet deadlines daily.
• Problem-solving skills.
• Report writing and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment with other staff or consultants.
• Demonstrated understanding of WHS and EEO principles.
• Class C drivers licence.
• Current General Construction Induction Card (White Card).

Responsibilities

• Assist in quality engineering design work related to road, stormwater drainage and traffic functions.
• Provide timely professional advice on engineering matters to contractors and residents.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

In contributing to the overarching vision, the Trainee Engineer provides assistance to the Design and Technical Services Business Unit by way of quality engineering design work relating to road, stormwater drainage and traffic functions. This role will provide timely professional advice on engineering matters to contractors and residents as well as provide quality survey, design and set out for engineering projects.

Reporting to the Executive Engineer Infrastructure Design, this role will conduct investigation and assessment of Civil Infrastructure related matters as directed by the Supervisor.

The successful applicant will require:

• Completed minimum 2 Years of Civil Engineering Degree

• Class C drivers licence

About this role:

• Term contract (6 months), full-time position
• 70 hour fortnight
• Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement
• Located at Council's Auburn office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations
• Please note this position is available to UTS students only to be completed through the UTS work placement program.

Salary information:

• Trainee Salary Structure of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,035.80 to $1,292.86 per week, plus 12% superannuation
• The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role

What you'll need to have for this role:

• The right to live and work in Australia
• Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
• Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
