Job summary

BlueFin Resources seeks a Trading Operations Analyst to join its Sydney-based Energy Markets team. The role sits at the intersection of BESS operations, engineering and market analytics, supporting day-to-day performance and commercial outcomes across assets.

The successful candidate will monitor SCADA and market data, maintain dashboards and collaborate with trading, operations and external partners. Strong technical and analytical capability is essential.

Qualifications

• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Approximately 3+ years' experience across renewable energy, BESS, power systems, asset operations, trading operations or energy market analytics.
• Exposure to operating or analysing grid-connected generation or storage assets.
• Understanding of BESS and electrical power systems, ideally including PCS/inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection/control and grid connection interfaces.
• Exposure to AEMO/NEM market operations, SCADA data and asset operating constraints.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to connect physical asset performance with commercial outcomes.
• Strong Excel capability; exposure to Python, SQL, Power BI or similar analytical tools would be advantageous.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work across technical, commercial and external stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

About the Role

An established renewable energy business is looking for a Trading Operations Analyst to join its Sydney-based Energy Markets team.
This is a hands-on role sitting at the intersection of BESS operations, electrical engineering, energy markets and commercial performance. You will support the day-to-day operational and commercial performance of grid-connected battery assets, working across asset operations, market monitoring, technical performance, contractors and internal commercial teams.
The role would suit an Electrical/Power Systems Engineer or energy professional who has developed exposure to BESS, NEM operations or renewable asset operations and wants to build broader experience across the technical and commercial sides of the energy market.

Key Responsibilities

BESS & Asset Performance

• Monitor day-to-day operational, electrical and commercial performance of BESS assets, including cycling, degradation, availability, asset health and operating constraints.
• Monitor and analyse operational data from SCADA, AEMO, OEM, network and trading systems.
• Maintain asset performance dashboards and support weekly/monthly reporting across technical, operational, market and financial KPIs.
• Review asset operating parameters and ensure alignment with grid connection constraints, technical limits and contractual obligations.
• Interpret technical specifications, single-line diagrams, electrical drawings and operating requirements.

Energy Market & Trading Operations

• Monitor NEM spot market outcomes, market trends and changing conditions.
• Support the optimisation of battery availability and operating strategy alongside trading teams, offtakers and external partners.
• Analyse the commercial impact of outages, equipment limitations, grid events and maintenance windows.
• Support regular internal and external meetings covering asset performance, market conditions and operational risks.

Operations & Maintenance

• Coordinate with O&M contractors, OEMs, asset managers and network service providers on operational and maintenance matters.
• Monitor planned/unplanned outages, alarms, defects and equipment limitations.
• Support commissioning-to-operations transition, operational readiness and post-COD performance activities.
• Assist with the operational interface across BESS equipment including inverters/PCS, transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems.

Compliance & Data

• Support compliance with relevant AEMO/NEM, grid connection and technical requirements.
• Maintain accurate operational datasets and reporting processes.
• Support risk reporting and operational governance requirements.

About You

We are looking for someone with:
