We are hiring an Energy Trading Specialist as our in-house trading expert. You sit between the market, our engineers and our customers: analysing the NEM, tuning bidding and dispatch strategies, and shaping what our trading tools should do next.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of NEM trading experience covering spot market analysis, bidding, and asset optimisation.
• Strong grasp of NEM fundamentals: dispatch and pricing mechanics, bidding and rebidding, FCAS, and drivers of asset revenue.
• Experience turning large market datasets into decisions.
• Knowledge of bidding compliance obligations under the National Electricity Rules.

Responsibilities

• Monitor NEM energy and FCAS prices, dispatch outcomes and their drivers, and form a view on bidding behaviour.
• Analyse trading and dispatch performance to identify missed opportunities and quantify the drivers using OptiGrid's data and backtesting tools.
• Test, tune and recommend improvements to automated bidding and dispatch strategies per client risk profile.
• Review high price events and volatility to inform internal priorities and customer insights.
• Own the trading product roadmap: write specifications, sketch mock-ups, collaborate with data scientists and frontend engineers, test against market behaviour.
• Be the trading SME in customer meetings, translating performance and backtests into a commercial story.
• Guide customers through onboarding, strategy configuration, risk management and bidding compliance.
• Build relationships across the NEM trading community and represent OptiGrid at industry events.

We are hiring an Energy Trading Specialist as our in-house trading expert. You sit between the market, our engineers and our customers: analysing the NEM, tuning the bidding and dispatch strategies applied to client battery and hybrid assets, and setting the direction for what our trading tools should do next.

What you will do

• Monitor NEM energy and FCAS prices, dispatch outcomes and their drivers, and form a clear view on what they mean for bidding behaviour
• Analyse trading and dispatch performance, identify missed opportunities and quantify the drivers using OptiGrid's market data and backtesting tools
• Test, tune and recommend improvements to automated bidding and dispatch strategies against each client's risk profile
• Review high price events and volatility episodes and turn the findings into internal development priorities and customer insights
• Own the trading product roadmap: write specifications, sketch mock-ups, work directly with data scientists and frontend engineers, and test what ships against real market behaviour
• Be the trading subject matter expert in customer and prospect meetings, translating asset performance and backtest results into a clear commercial story
• Guide customers through onboarding, strategy configuration, risk management and bidding compliance
• Build relationships across the NEM trading community and represent OptiGrid at industry events

What you bring

• 3+ years of NEM trading experience covering spot market analysis, bidding and asset optimisation
• Strong grasp of NEM fundamentals: dispatch and pricing mechanics, bidding and rebidding behaviour, FCAS markets, and the drivers of asset revenue
• Good understanding of price forecasting and battery optimisation mechanics
• A track record of turning large market datasets into decisions
• Working knowledge of bidding compliance obligations under the National Electricity Rules
• Clear communicator with technical teams and non-technical customers alike
• Self-directed and accountable, comfortable delivering without heavy process
• SQL and Python sufficient to explore data independently; experience writing specs and working with designers or engineers; a client-facing analytical or advisory role; hands-on experience intervening on autobidding platforms during high price events or market disruptions.
