Job summary

Monash Health is seeking a Trade Cook to join our Support Services team at Kingston Centre and Moorabbin Hospital on a part-time, ongoing basis. You will prepare meals, assist with patient nutrition, and follow food safety standards to ensure safe, timely service.

Ideal candidates have hospital, aged care or hospitality food production experience, strong communication skills, and a passion for patient-centred care. Intermediate computer skills and adherence to safety protocols are required.

Qualifications

• Experience in food production within hospital, aged care or hospitality settings.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; reliable team member.
• Intermediate computer skills and adherence to safety protocols.
• Knowledge of diet codes, texture-modified foods and allergies is a plus.

About the Role

Join our team as a Trade Cook on a part time, ongoing to work at Kingston CPK and Moorabbin Hospital. In this role, you will be guided under the leadership of the Production Manager and working with the broader Support Services team.

Trade Cooks play a vital role in providing high-quality meal services to patients and supporting overall patient nutrition and food safety. Trade Cooks are responsible for the preparation of meals, cleaning, all whilst ensuring patient’s dietary needs are met accurately and efficiently. Trade Cooks contribute to patient care by ensuring meals are delivered on time, safely, accurately and with respect.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Producing meals as per schedule and standard recipes
• preparing meals in line with production and clinical needs, including special functions
• Follow recipes, contribute to menu development
• Completing all food safety and cleaning documentation accurately and in a timely manner

About You

To ensure your success in this role, you will bring experience in food production within a hospital, aged care, or hospitality setting with strong demonstrated knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene standards. You have a passion for patient care and nutrition, ensuring patients are treated with respect and empathy. You are a reliable and punctual team member with great verbal and written communication skills; and intermediate computer skills. Whether you work independently or as part of a team; you always follow manual handling, safety protocols, and procedural instructions. It would be an advantage if you also have comprehensive understanding of diet codes, texture modified foods and fluids, food allergies and intolerances.

You are also required to hold

• HLTFSE001: Follow basic food safety practices or SITXFSA001: Use hygienic practices for food safety.

The centre also offers specialised clinics and programs—such as dementia, falls and movement disorder services—supporting both older adults and people recovering from illness or injury.
