Job summary

The City of Geelong is seeking a Town Planner to assess development and land use applications, ensuring compliance with planning legislation and timely decisions. You will work with applicants, the community, and other agencies to shape sustainable growth across Greater Geelong.

The role requires a tertiary qualification in town planning or urban design, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to manage timelines and adapt to changing requirements.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in town planning or urban design.
• Theoretical and practical knowledge to interpret planning legislation and related laws.
• Awareness of current trends affecting town planning and good investigative skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and investigate development applications for compliance with legislation and timely processing.
• Assist with issuing Town Planning permits and coordinating input from departments and the public.
• Provide expert planning advice to clients and the public and address enquiries on planning matters.
• Represent the City in public forums and legal proceedings; assist with heritage preservation, gaming and liquor control advice.
• Support the development and review of policies and maintain effective administrative systems.
