Job summary

Telstra Corporation in Sydney seeks a Threat Labs Specialist to own and evolve a specialised Threat Labs capability supporting security operations, threat research, incident response and Cleaner Pipes activities. Qualifications

• Prior experience administering Linux systems in an enterprise environment.
• Proficiency in Linux operating systems, virtualization, orchestration, automation, distributed systems and storage.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and root cause analysis across hardware, software and network environments.
• Scripting experience in at least one language, with ability to understand and debug scripts.
• Understanding of big data concepts and tools handling large volumes of security data.
• Ability to clearly document processes, technical changes, operational procedures and incident response actions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting performance analysis and responding to stakeholder questions.
• Proficiency in online research and analysis, collaborative working style, and willingness to learn new technologies.
• Continuous improvement mindset, including automation of activities and assessing new tools.
• High levels of accountability, integrity, and care when managing sensitive systems, data and network access.

Responsibilities

• Develop, support, and maintain the Threat Labs environment, services and systems.
• Monitor availability, functionality, performance; troubleshoot hardware, software, network and distributed-system issues.
• Perform routine system maintenance, patch management, and root cause analysis to keep Threat Labs services reliable and secure.
• Administer user accounts, permissions, access controls and secure remote access for Threat Labs users.
• Engage vendors and technical partners to support platforms, services and project delivery.
• Provide technical support to teams using Threat Labs services during security incidents and investigations.
• Develop, maintain and improve documentation that enables repeatable Threat Labs operations.
• Contribute to Threat Labs operations, projects, deliverables and Cleaner Pipes work.
• Identify and implement system, tooling, automation and process improvements to strengthen threat intelligence and security outcomes.
• Maintain effective relationships with domestic and international stakeholders and response teams.
• Demonstrate visible commitment to health, safety and environmental responsibilities.

Sitting within Telstra's Cyber Security Threat Research and Intelligence Group, this role offers the opportunity to own and evolve a specialised Threat Labs capability that supports security operations, threat research, incident response, and Cleaner Pipes activities. You will work across Linux systems, virtualisation, distributed platforms, storage, automation, and secure networking, while partnering with internal teams, vendors, peer organisations, and local and global security communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, support, and maintain the Threat Labs environment, services, and systems.

About You

You are an experienced systems administrator or security technologist who enjoys taking ownership of complex platforms and continually improving how they operate.

• Prior experience administering Linux systems in an enterprise or service-provider environment.
• Proficiency in Linux operating systems, virtualisation, orchestration, automation, distributed systems, and storage.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills across hardware, software, and network environments.

• An understanding of big data concepts and tools, particularly in environments that process large volumes of security data.
• The ability to clearly document processes, technical changes, operational procedures, and incident response actions.
