Job summary

Telstra is seeking a Threat Labs Specialist to own and evolve a specialised Threat Labs capability supporting security operations, threat research, incident response, and Cleaner Pipes work. You will work across Linux systems, virtualization, distributed platforms, storage, automation, and secure networking.

You will engage with internal teams and vendors, maintain Threat Labs services, and drive improvements while upholding health and safety responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Experience administering Linux systems in an enterprise or service-provider environment.
• Proficiency in Linux OS, virtualisation, orchestration, automation, distributed systems and storage.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and root cause analysis across hardware, software and networks.
• Scripting experience in at least one language.
• Understanding of big data concepts and tools processing large volumes of security data.
• Ability to clearly document processes, changes and incident actions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with stakeholders.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and automate activities.
• High levels of accountability and integrity managing sensitive systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, support, and maintain the Threat Labs environment, services, and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, support, and maintain the Threat Labs environment, services, and systems.
• Monitor system availability, functionality, and performance, and troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and distributed-system issues.
• Perform routine system maintenance, patch management, and root cause analysis to keep Threat Labs services reliable and secure.
• Administer user accounts, permissions, access controls, and secure remote access for Threat Labs users.
• Engage vendors and technical partners as required to support platforms, services, and project delivery.
• Provide technical support to teams using Threat Labs services during security incidents and operational investigations.
• Develop, maintain, and improve documentation that enables repeatable and efficient Threat Labs operations.
• Contribute to Threat Labs operations, projects, deliverables, and supporting Cleaner Pipes work.
• Identify and implement system, tooling, automation, and process improvements that strengthen threat intelligence and security outcomes.
• Maintain effective relationships with domestic and international stakeholders and response teams, keeping them informed of relevant developments.
• Demonstrate visible commitment to health, safety, and environmental responsibilities within the role.

About You

You are an experienced systems administrator or security technologist who enjoys taking ownership of complex platforms and continually improving how they operate.

You bring:

• Prior experience administering Linux systems in an enterprise or service-provider environment.
• Proficiency in Linux operating systems, virtualisation, orchestration, automation, distributed systems, and storage.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills across hardware, software, and network environments.
• Scripting experience in at least one language, with the ability to understand and debug scripts.
• An understanding of big data concepts and tools, particularly in environments that process large volumes of security data.
• The ability to clearly document processes, technical changes, operational procedures, and incident response actions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present performance analysis and respond to stakeholder questions.
• Proficiency in online research and analysis, a collaborative working style, and a willingness to learn new technologies.
• A continuous-improvement mindset, including an interest in automating activities and assessing new tools.
• High levels of accountability, integrity, and care when managing sensitive systems, data, and network access.

Highly desirable:

• Experience with KVM.
• Strong networking fundamentals.
• Relevant industry certification(s).
