Job summary

Carpentaria is a not-for-profit organisation delivering Disability and Therapy Services for children, adolescents and adults, across allied health programs and living supports. The role focuses on providing safe, trauma-informed care to young people aged 12–18, working in a residential setting within a multidisciplinary team, and supporting resilience, life skills and positive outcomes.

Ideal candidates hold Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention, have residential care

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or ability to obtain.
• Experience in residential care, youth services or Out of Home Care programs.
• Person-centred approach to supporting children and young people.
• Knowledge of child protection legislation, care standards and trauma-informed care.
• Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in cross-cultural contexts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills.
• Flexibility to work various shifts including sleepovers and public holidays.

Purpose

You will provide safe, therapeutic and trauma-informed support to young people aged 12-18 years, promoting their emotional wellbeing, stability and development. It focuses on building trusting relationships, supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviors, and responding effectively to crises and identified risks.

Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team, the role supports young people to develop resilience, independence, life skills and meaningful connections with their families, peers and community. It also contributes to maintaining a safe, structured and nurturing home environment where young people feel respected, supported and empowered to achieve positive outcomes.

The ideal candidate

• Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or the ability to obtain
• Demonstrated experience working in residential care, youth services, or Out of Home Care programs
• Genuine passion for supporting children and young people to live their best life using a person-centred approach
• Knowledge of child protection legislation, care standards, and trauma-informed care.
• Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with experience working in cross cultural contexts
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to write clear and accurate reports and sound computer skills
• Flexibility to work various shifts including both short and long shifts on weekdays, weekends, evenings, nights, sleepovers and public holidays
