Job summary

Berry Street invites applications for a part-time Therapeutic Specialist role within Take Two Program at the Noble Park site. The role focuses on clinical assessment, coaching and reflective practice to foster a therapeutic care environment for children and young people in Berry Street Yooralla's Residential Care homes.

The successful candidate will work closely with Residential Care teams, providing guidance, reporting and support to achieve outcomes within the program framework.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree level or higher in Health or Welfare field is required.
• Significant experience conducting clinical work with children (minimum 2 years).
• Postgraduate training is desirable, plus experience in psychoeducation and coaching.
• Family Therapy training is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide thorough assessment of young people’s presentations, including developmental and family histories and mental health considerations.
• Write comprehensive reports and translate findings into practice guidance for residential care staff.
• Collaborate with care teams to achieve goals within defined timeframes.
• Support Residential Care teams to implement the therapeutic model in practice.

Take Two Program

Take Two provides a range of therapeutic services for infants, children and young people who have suffered trauma, neglect and disrupted attachment, and contributes to the service system that provides care, support and protection for these children.

Take Two is also involved, in partnership with other community service agencies, in the provision of therapeutic family violence services, therapeutic foster care, therapeutic residential care, and therapeutic services for the Family Preservation and Reunification Response Program.

This is a specialist role designed to provide clinical assessment and intervention to children and young people, psychoeducation resources, and a therapeutic framework for the residential carers who support the young people living in Berry Street Yooralla's Residential Care homes.

• Part Time (0.5 FTE), Fixed term role until 30th April 2027 (parental leave cover)
• $119K plus super and salary packaging (pro rata)

The Opportunity

As a Therapeutic Specialist you will work closely with the young people and Residential Care team focusing on facilitating reflective practice and building team members knowledge of therapeutic parenting strategies which will enable them to develop responses which foster a therapeutic care environment. Spending significant time at the home to provide coaching, modelling and informal therapeutic conversations with the staff and young people will be required to ensure success in this role and program.

The key components of the role include:

• Providing a thorough assessment of young people’s current presentations, including their developmental and family histories, potential mental health challenges and the impact arising from any developmental trauma they may have experienced
• Writing comprehensive reports and then translating the findings and recommendations into practice guidance for the residential care staff and the broader system such as the young person’s care team.
• Working closely and collaboratively the young people in our care and their care teams to achieve agreed goals within a specified time frame.
• Supporting Residential Care teams to incorporate the model in a therapeutic manner.

About You

You will have a demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of complex direct service in the clinical assessment and treatment of children, young people and families; and to comply with service delivery towards output and outcomes requirement.

• Sound decision making skills,
• Reflected in excellent clinical judgements.
• A high degree of self-discipline, reflected in the ability to provide targeted clinical services within strict timeframes.
• A Bachelor degree level or higher qualification in a Health or Welfare related field such as Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Family Therapy, Speech Pathology or related discipline is required
• Significant experience conducting clinical work with children (minimum 2 years).

You may also have the following:

• Postgraduate training.
• Experience in providing secondary consultation, psychoeducation and coaching
• Family Therapy training
