This government-owned insurance organisation is embarking on one of Brisbane's largest technology transformation programs, with a vision to evolve from a traditional claims management provider into a rehabilitation-focused service by 2030.

As part of this five-year transformation, the organisation is replacing core technology systems across claims, HR, CRM, finance and compliance, driving a significant uplift across its enterprise architecture and technology landscape.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Test Architect to join on an initial 8-month contract, with potential extensions, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of test automation across a large-scale enterprise environment.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who has progressed from hands-on automation engineering into technical design and architecture but remains close to the tools and technologies.

You will be responsible for reviewing the organisation's existing testing toolset, assessing its scalability and suitability for future requirements, and designing and implementing a robust, enterprise-wide automation framework to support the rollout of new technology platforms.

Working closely with technical leads, solution architects and automation engineers, you will take ownership of the low-level technical design, including framework architecture, integrations, test coverage, governance, and automation standards. You will play a key role in ensuring the testing capability is scalable, maintainable and aligned with the organisation's long-term technology strategy.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position, focused on architecture and implementation rather than people management.

Key Responsibilities

• Review existing testing tools and frameworks, identifying opportunities to improve scalability, efficiency and automation capabilities.
• Design and implement enterprise-scale automation frameworks, producing low-level technical designs and integration approaches.
• Establish test automation governance, standards, best practices and technical guidelines.
• Provide technical guidance to automation engineers, remaining hands-on throughout framework development and implementation.
• Collaborate with architects, technical leads and stakeholders to align testing solutions with broader enterprise technology requirements.

Skills & Experience

• Strong background in automation testing, with experience progressing into Test Architecture or Technical Test Lead roles.
• Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale automation frameworks.
• Strong low-level technical design experience, including framework architecture and integrations.
• Broad exposure to automation tools such as Selenium, WebDriver, Playwright or similar.
• Experience with API testing tools including Karate, Postman or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of automation governance, standards and best practices.
• Experience working across complex enterprise environments and large-scale technology implementations.
• Ability to balance architectural design with hands-on technical delivery.
