Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Test residual current devices where required and document results.
• Identify unsafe or non-compliant equipment and report to client.
• Enter results, assets, defects and follow-up actions in Norsafe systems.
• Communicate with clients to organise access and explain issues clearly.
• Maintain testing equipment, labels and documentation in safe condition.
• Follow WHS procedures, site rules and client induction requirements.
• Travel to regional/remote locations with occasional overnight stays.
• Represent Norsafe with professionalism and integrity.

Based in Cairns, Far North Queensland and established in 2010, Norsafe provides legislative Electrical Safety Inspection services to all industries. Services include Test and tag, RCD testing and Thermal imaging, in all areas from Bowen to Mt Isa to the remote Torres Straits Islands. Norsafe has a dedicated and knowledgeable team and a fantastic culture built on values around safety, compliance, diligence, and integrity. Specialised systems and job management programs mean Norsafe clients are always compliant and receive a best practice service according to relevant WHS legislation. Norsafe has proudly educated over 800 clients in the dangers of electricity and removed around 10,000 unsafe electrical items from service. Norsafe is now proudly the largest supplier of electrical safety services outside Metro Brisbane.

About the role

The Electrical Test and Tag Technician is responsible for conducting electrical safety inspections, testing and tagging of portable electrical equipment, cord sets, power boards and related items for Norsafe clients. The role supports client compliance with Queensland electrical safety requirements and AS/NZS 3760:2022, AS/NZS 3012:2019 by delivering accurate testing, clear reporting, safe work practices and professional customer service.

Key responsibilities

Inspect, test and tag electrical equipment in accordance with AS/NZS 3760:2022, AS/NZS 3012:2019, client requirements and Norsafe procedures.

Conduct visual inspections, earth continuity testing, insulation resistance testing, polarity checks and other relevant tests using approved testing equipment.

Test residual current devices where required and record results accurately.

Identify unsafe, damaged, non-compliant or failed equipment and ensure it is clearly labelled, isolated from use and reported to the client.

Enter testing results, asset information, defect notes and follow-up actions into Norsafe's job management and reporting systems.

Communicate professionally with clients to organise access, minimise operational disruption and explain failed items or compliance issues clearly.

Maintain testing equipment, labels, leads, tools, vehicle stock and job documentation in a clean, safe and organised condition.

Follow all Norsafe workplace health and safety procedures, site-specific rules, risk controls and client induction requirements.

Travel to regional and remote client locations as required, including occasional overnight stays and early starts.

Represent Norsafe with professionalism, integrity, and reliability with a strong commitment to electrical safety.

About you - We require you to have:

Current valid driver's licence and ability to travel for work.

Be deemed competent by the employer to inspect, test and tag electrical equipment in Queensland.

Hold, or be willing to complete, nationally recognised training such as UEERL0003 Conduct in-service safety testing of electrical cord connected equipment and cord assemblies, or equivalent current competency.

Understand the practical application of AS/NZS 3760:2022, Queensland electrical safety duties and workplace health and safety obligations.

Experience in Thermal Imaging and test and tag

Long term employment preferred

Experience with Service M8, Office 365 and Patguard operating systems

Willingness to upskill to learn other roles within our growing company.
