St Vincent's Private Hospital Toowoomba in Sydney CBD NSW is seeking an experienced Switchboard Receptionist to welcome patients and callers, support urgent responses, and maintain smooth hospital communications. You will manage rosters, directories and admin systems while delivering compassionate service.

• Switchboard/contact centre or receptionist experience is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Be the friendly, professional voice and face of St Vincent’s Hospital for patients, staff and the public over the phone.
• Respond confidently in emergencies and liaise with Security and Mental Health Crisis Team as needed.
• Provide compassionate support to callers in distress, including issues with drugs, alcohol or mental health.
• Keep Switchboard operations running by managing rosters, directories and admin systems.
• Work a 7-day rotating roster with a focus on Sacred Heart Receptionist duties (7:00 am – 8:30 pm).

About the role

• Be the friendly, professional Voice and Face of St Vincent’s Hospital, welcoming and assisting patients, staff, and the public over the phone.
• Take charge in urgent situations, responding confidently to emergencies, contacting the Mental Health Crisis Team, and liaising with Security when needed.
• Provide compassionate support to callers experiencing distress, including challenges with drugs, alcohol, or mental health issues.
• Keep critical hospital Switchboard operations running smoothly by managing and updating medical rosters, directories, and administrative systems.
• Enjoy a dynamic, 7-day rotating roster that may include day, evening, overnight shifts, with your main focus as Sacred Heart Receptionist (7:00 am – 8:30 pm daily).

About you

• Experienced and confident in challenging environments, with the ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Switchboard/contact centre or receptionist experience highly regarded, with strong skills in managing calls and enquiries professionally.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to manage difficult situations and provide exceptional patient service independently.
• Decision-makers under pressure, able to implement emergency procedures accurately and maintain calm in high-stress situations.
• Professional and adaptable, well-presented with the ability to engage with staff, patients, and the public, and flexible to work night shifts as part of a rotating roster.
