Job summary

Townsville City Council invites applications for a hands‑on Technician Ecology. The role involves working across parks, bushland and waterways, performing revegetation, weed control, habitat maintenance and fire mitigation.

You will monitor water quality, manage erosion, remove litter, respond to incidents, and assist with nursery activities and wildlife work. You will carry out 4x4 driving duties, possess relevant licences, and contribute to a dynamic team dedicated to protecting natural areas

Qualifications

Certificate III Conservation and Land Management is mandatory.
Current Manual Queensland C Class Driver’s Licence is required.
Current Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control Licence is required.
Current Positive Notice Working with Children Blue Card or ability to obtain.
Construction Industry White Card (30215 QLD) is required.
Chainsaw / Polesaw Certificates are required.
Fire Fighter (Vegetation) or willingness to obtain is required.

Responsibilities

Revegetate and monitor vegetation in parks, bushland and waterways.
Weed management and habitat maintenance across multiple sites.

Position role: Technician Ecology

Division/Section: Infrastructure and Operations / Construction Maintenance and Operations

Position Type: Permanent - Full Time

Salary Range: Base Salary $68,726 per annum + super, plus overtime and penalty rates dependent on work performed. Additional entitlements and overtime do not form part of the advertised base salary

Location: Townsville

About The Role

You'll spend your time across parks, bushland and waterways, carrying out hands‑on environmental activities including revegetation, weed management, habitat maintenance and fire mitigation. This practical field‑based position involves monitoring water quality, undertaking erosion control works, removing litter and responding to environmental incidents such as fish kills and oil spills. You'll also assist with nursery operations, plant propagation, soil assessments and wildlife management activities, including bat monitoring and dispersals. Working as part of a dedicated team, you'll play an important role in protecting and enhancing natural areas while developing valuable skills and experience. Certificate III Conservation and Land Management

About You!

You will have sound knowledge of natural area management including revegetation, weed and feral animal control techniques, on‑ground fire management, erosion mitigation techniques and working knowledge of environmental practices and procedures, including the maintenance of associated plant and equipment

You will have the capacity to work in natural areas and conduct revegetation, plant identification, fire and weed management and the ability to drive 4x4's and reverse trailers.
