Job summary

Saab Australia is seeking a Technician to join our Engineering & Sustainment Services group, contributing to navigation system integration on naval platforms. You will be part of the Test and Commissioning Team, delivering high-quality, timely solutions and supporting offshore deployment when required.

The ideal candidate will hold a Certificate III or equivalent in Engineering/Electronics, may need a relevant electrical license, and must be eligible for NV1 clearance.

Qualifications

• Must have Certificate III or equivalent in Engineering/Electronics/Networking.
• Must hold or be eligible for relevant State licenses (e.g., Restricted Electrical License).
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain NV1 security clearance.
• Willingness to deploy interstate and offshore as required.

Responsibilities

• Install, integrate, test, commission and maintain navigation systems and related equipment.
• Provide hands-on technical expertise, support system acceptance activities, and develop technical documentation and reports.
• Collaborate with project teams, mentor junior technicians, and ensure compliance with contractual, technical, and quality requirements.

The role

As part of our Engineering & Sustainment Services group, the Technician will thrive under pressure and excel in complex integration environments. You will be a vital part of our Test and Commissioning Team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely solutions that impact the performance of critical naval platforms. This role offers unique opportunities for professional growth and requires individuals ready for challenging work both interstate and offshore.

In this role you will:

• Support the delivery of the SEA 4000 project, responsible for the installation, integration, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of navigation systems and equipment.
• Provide hands‑on technical expertise, supports system acceptance activities, develops technical documentation and reports, and acts as a subject matter expert during commissioning phases.
• Work collaboratively with project teams to resolve complex technical issues, mentor junior technicians, and ensure all activities are completed in accordance with contractual, technical, and quality requirements.

As the ideal applicant you will have:

• Qualified Technician: Certificate III or relevant experience in an Engineering, Electronics, Networking or related fields.
• Licensing: Hold, or be eligible to apply/receive, relevant State licenses (e.g. Restricted Electrical Licensed).

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About You

Your skills and experience will include:

• Navigation Systems Testing & Commissioning: Proven experience in the installation, integration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of navigation systems and associated equipment.
• Technical Troubleshooting & Fault Resolution: Strong ability to diagnose, analyse, and resolve complex system defects, perform root cause analysis, and produce detailed technical reports.
• Technical Documentation & Stakeholder Collaboration: Experience developing test procedures, commissioning reports, and technical documentation, while effectively collaborating with engineers, project teams, and customers to achieve project outcomes.
• Defence/Maritime experience, desirable
• Adaptability & Problem‑Solving: Confidently adjust to changing priorities, identify underlying issues and actively contribute to system improvement initiatives.
• Operational Readiness: Available for deployment (interstate and offshore) to perform critical installation and maintenance tasks.
• Security: Eligible to hold or obtain a NV1 Security Clearance
• Autonomy & Efficiency: Capable of managing competing priorities under minimal supervision while consistently exceeding job requirements and meeting strict deadlines.
• Communication & Collaboration: Function confidently within a team, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and foster a spirit of co‑operation.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong analytical skills, excellent written/verbal communication, and intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
