Job summary

Saab Australia is seeking a Qualified Technician to join our Engineering & Sustainability Services group. You will be part of the Test and Commissioning Team delivering high-quality solutions for naval platforms, with opportunities for interstate and offshore work.

Applicants should have a Certificate III or relevant engineering/electronics expertise and be eligible for a NV1 security clearance. Hybrid work arrangements and flexible scheduling are available.

The opportunity Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration - Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT). The CSI-IPT is a collaborative enterprise organisation that executes scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1).

The role As part of our Engineering & Sustainability Services group, the Technician will thrive under pressure and excel in complex integration environments. You will be a vital part of our Test and Commissioning Team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely solutions that impact the performance of critical naval platforms. This role offers unique opportunities for professional growth and requires individuals ready for challenging work both interstate and offshore.

Qualified Technician

Certificate III or relevant experience in an Engineering, Electronics, Networking or related fields. Licensing: Hold, or be eligible to apply/receive, relevant State licenses (e.g. Restricted Electrical Licensed).

Domain Knowledge: Relevant understanding, knowledge, and experience specific to engineering systems, assemblies, platforms, and services, with preference in one or more of the following capabilities:

• Underwater Sensors and Systems
• Communications Systems
• Above Water Sensors Systems
• Combat Management Systems
• Naval Weapons Systems
• Navigation Systems

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

• Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Confidently adjust to changing priorities, identify underlying issues, and actively contribute to system improvement initiatives.
• Operational Readiness: Available for deployment (interstate and offshore) to perform critical installation and maintenance tasks.
• Security: Eligible to hold or obtain a NV1 Security Clearance.
• Autonomy & Efficiency: Capable of managing competing priorities under minimal supervision while consistently exceeding job requirements and meeting strict deadlines.
• Communication & Collaboration: Function confidently within a team, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and foster a spirit of co-operation.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong analytical skills, excellent written/verbal communication, and intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
