Job summary

CAMM Quarries in Townsville invites an experienced Technical Manager to lead technical planning and safe, efficient quarry operations on site and in the office.

You will oversee production optimisation, resource management and compliance, partnering with the Quarry Manager to drive performance and maximise resource value.

Qualifications

  • Hard rock quarry experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of quarry production, extraction and processing operations.
  • Experience with quarry planning, resource management and production optimisation.
  • Understanding of drilling and blasting processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage technical information and documentation.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational teams, contractors and management.
  • A practical, hands-on approach with a genuine interest in improving quarry performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain quarry production and extraction plans to support current and future operational requirements.
  • Provide technical support and guidance across drilling, blasting, extraction, processing and rehabilitation activities.
  • Monitor quarry production, resource utilisation, stockpiles and product yields to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with geological and resource assessments, including quarry reserves and extraction sequencing.
  • Coordinate drilling and blasting activities and work closely with contractors to achieve safe and effective outcomes.
  • Support the development and implementation of quarry optimisation strategies.
  • Ensure technical activities are undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation, approvals, environmental requirements and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, plans, surveys and production data.
  • Work with the Quarry Manager and production team to identify and implement improvements to productivity, quality and efficiency.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, tendering and longer-term quarry planning.
  • Support the development of new products and markets by providing technical input into resource capability and production requirements.
  • Liaise with consultants, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders as required.
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture and ensure technical decisions support safe quarry operations

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and technically capable Technical Manager to join our quarrying operations in Townsville.

This is a key role within the quarry team, responsible for providing technical leadership and supporting the safe, efficient and commercially focused operation of the quarry.

Working closely with the Quarry Manager and operational teams, you will oversee technical planning, production optimisation, resource management and compliance, while identifying opportunities to improve quarry performance and maximise the value of the resource.

You will be an experienced quarrying professional with a strong technical background and practical understanding of hard rock quarry operations. You will be comfortable working between the office and quarry floor and have the ability to turn technical information into practical outcomes.

We are looking for someone who has:
  • Experience in a hard rock quarry or similar extractive industry environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quarry production, extraction and processing operations.
  • Experience with quarry planning, resource management and production optimisation.
  • Understanding of drilling and blasting processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage technical information and documentation.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational teams, contractors and management.
  • A practical, hands-on approach with a genuine interest in improving quarry performance.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in mining, engineering, geology or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
