Job summary

Squiz is seeking an Engineering Tech Lead to own the Discovery team's cloud-native services, driving scalable, secure, and cost-efficient systems. You will steer generative AI and content intelligence initiatives while mentoring engineers and shaping architecture.

Join a hybrid, east-coast Australia team working with AWS, Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB. You will partner with the Engineering Manager to balance delivery and technical debt, balancing architecture health with business needs.

Qualifications

8+ years building and operating complex distributed systems in production.
Deep AWS experience with serverless and containerized workloads.
Proven CI/CD automation and secure DevSecOps practices.
Strong Node.js and TypeScript development background.
Experience with modern observability tools and cost visibility.
Comfort working in agile environments and leading architecture workshops.

Responsibilities

Take technical ownership of Discovery services, ensuring scalable, highly available pipelines.
Design resilient distributed systems with decoupled components and clear boundaries.
Champion DevSecOps, security scanning, and IAM principles across the team.
Own and optimize CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure reproducibility.
Act as FinOps guardian, monitoring AWS spend across compute, storage and AI usage.
Provide technical steering for Generative AI workflows and AWS Bedrock integration.
Collaborate with Engineering Manager, stakeholders and designers to write user stories and estimates.
Write clean backend services in Node.js/TypeScript on AWS and mentor peers.
