Job summary

Squiz is seeking an Engineering Tech Lead to own the Discovery team's cloud-native services in a hybrid Melbourne-based role. You will steer architecture for conversational search, generative AI, and scalable data pipelines, focusing on reliability, security, and cost efficiency.

You will collaborate with an Engineering Manager and business stakeholders to translate complex concepts into actionable user stories, guiding senior and junior engineers through architectural reviews and code quality

Qualifications

8+ years of hands-on experience building distributed systems in production.
Deep production experience with cloud-native AWS environments (serverless, containers) and IaC.
Proven capability in DevSecOps practices, CI/CD automation, and Well-Architected Framework.
Strong track record of system design, caching strategies, and distributed debugging.

Responsibilities

Take ownership of the Discovery team's services, ensuring scalable, highly available pipelines.
Design resilient, decoupled distributed systems with clear API boundaries and fault tolerance.
Champion DevSecOps, automated security scanning, vulnerability management, and IAM controls.
Own and optimize CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, blue-green/canary deployments, and reproducible infrastructure.
Provide technical steering for Generative AI and RAG architectures, evaluating AWS Bedrock safely and cost-effectively.
Collaborate with Engineering Manager to balance delivery with long-term architecture health.
Partner with stakeholders and designers to translate concepts into user stories and estimates.
Write clean backend services using Node.js and TypeScript on AWS, and mentor engineers.
