Job summary

Expertech in Sydney is seeking an experienced tech lead to join a high-growth fintech and build the core banking infrastructure behind a modern lending platform. You will influence architectural decisions for wallets, accounts, ledgers, payments and offset accounts, and work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure secure, highly available systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend or full-stack development, with Node.js expertise.
• Strong experience with relational databases, APIs and concurrency control.
• 2+ years building mission-critical financial systems (banking/payments/ledgers).
• Solid understanding of double-entry accounting and financial reconciliation.
• Designing architectures focused on fault tolerance, high consistency and scalability.
• Experience with safe production data migrations and data integrity.
• Knowledge of security, compliance and auditability in regulated environments.
• Excellent communication and ability to explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

Job description

Expertech is looking for an experienced tech lead to join a high-growth fintech and play a key role in building the core banking infrastructure behind a modern lending platform.

This is an opportunity to work on genuinely mission-critical financial systems, including wallets, transactional accounts, ledgers, payments and offset accounts. You'll have significant influence over technical architecture and engineering standards, while working closely with product and engineering teams to build secure, highly available and scalable systems.

You'll be joining a newly formed Banking Squad, with the opportunity to help shape both the technology and the way the team operates.

Essential Skills And Experience

• 5+ years' experience in backend or full-stack software development. Node experience is crucial.
• Strong expertise in relational databases, API design and concurrency control.
• 2+ years' experience building mission-critical financial systems, such as banking platforms, payment gateways or financial ledgers.
• Strong understanding of double-entry accounting and financial reconciliation.
• Proven experience designing and evolving complex architectures with a focus on fault tolerance, high consistency and scalability.
• Strong understanding of transactional workflows, data integrity and idempotent transaction handling.
• Experience writing highly tested, production-quality and fault-tolerant code.
• Strong understanding of observability, monitoring and production reliability.
• Experience performing safe production data migrations without compromising data integrity.
• Experience working with security, compliance and auditability requirements in financial or similarly regulated environments.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
• A proactive mindset and willingness to take ownership, challenge assumptions and drive technical direction.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience working with Australian financial services or lending platforms.
• Experience with regulatory and compliance frameworks such as APRA, PCI-DSS or SOC 2.
• Experience integrating with external banking, payment or financial service providers.
• Experience leading a technical squad or cross-functional engineering team.
• Experience mentoring engineers and conducting system design and code reviews.
• Experience working in a high-growth fintech, startup or similarly ambitious technology environment.
• Strong interest in financial technology and solving complex, real-world engineering problems.
