Gympie Regional Council is seeking a practical, safety‑focused Team Member to join our multi‑discipled maintenance team in Kilkivan. The role focuses on rural road grading, construction and maintenance, with opportunities across various Council crews and projects.

Team Member Grading DRFA Program - Fixed Term - Kilkivan

Remuneration: Annual salary commencing at $75,342, plus up to 15% superannuation

Fixed term: Initial fixed-term appointment of 12 months, with potential extension for an additional 12 months based on business needs

Location: Position based at Kilkivan

About the Role

Gympie Regional Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Team Member to join our multi-disciplined maintenance team.

This hands-on role is primarily focused on rural road grading, construction and maintenance, with opportunities to work across a range of Council crews and projects depending on operational requirements.

You’ll operate a range of plant, trucks and equipment while also undertaking general labouring activities to deliver high-quality road and infrastructure works safely, efficiently and in accordance with recognised industry standards.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Operating and maintaining plant, trucks, equipment and tools safely and competently.
  • Undertaking rural road grading, construction and maintenance activities.
  • Performing general civil construction and labouring duties, including frequent manual handling and physical work.
  • Supporting road earthworks, pavements, drainage, stormwater and concreting activities.
  • Working collaboratively with other Council teams to deliver scheduled works and respond to changing priorities.
  • Planning and organising road construction and maintenance activities with limited supervision.
  • Identifying hazards and actively contributing to a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and identifying better ways to deliver Council services.
  • Embracing technology and mobile workforce initiatives to improve the way we work.
  • Responding professionally to requests from Councillors, members of the public and other stakeholders.
  • Undertaking other duties within the scope of the position as required.
About You

We’re looking for someone who is practical, reliable and safety-focused, with demonstrated experience operating plant and working in civil construction or road maintenance environments.

You will have:

  • Demonstrated experience operating plant, vehicles, equipment and tools in a competent and proficient manner.
  • The physical ability and dexterity to undertake labouring duties, including heavy lifting, bending and other physically demanding tasks.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and members of the public.
  • The ability to plan and organise road construction and maintenance work with limited supervision.
  • A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • A professional approach, good judgement and the ability to adapt to changing work priorities.

Experience in road construction and maintenance, including earthworks, pavements, drainage, stormwater or concreting, will be highly regarded.

A Certificate III in Civil Construction, Plant Operations or a related field will also be advantageous.

Mandatory Requirements
  • A current Queensland HR Class Driver Licence or higher.
  • Relevant plant and equipment competencies appropriate to the position.
  • A current Queensland General Construction Induction Card (White Card) or equivalent.
  • Roller Operations competency or equivalent.

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction, Plant Operations or similar.
