Job summary

YMCA Victoria is seeking a part-time Operations (Lifeguard) Team Leader for the Newstead Outdoor Pool to oversee daily lifeguard operations, recruit and train staff, and manage scheduling. You will support plant room operations and uphold aquatic safety protocols while contributing to a positive, safe environment.

You will lead a small team, coordinate with centre leaders, handle rostering and end-of-month reporting, and participate in safety committees.

Qualifications

• Provide CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Experience leading a small team and coordinating shifts.
• Strong admin and scheduling skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead the operations/lifeguard team and assist the Operations Coordinator in team development.
• Roster and payroll responsibilities for staff; ensure timely end-of-month reporting.
• Coordinate with other centre leaders to maintain high safety standards and incident reporting.
• Contribute to safety and risk management practices within the centre.

About the Centre

There are four Council-owned outdoor swimming pools in Mount Alexander Shire, located in Castlemaine, Harcourt, Maldon and Newstead. The Newstead Pool features a 25m main pool, and toddlers’ pool. This facility has a BBQ and change room amenities. There is a kiosk and shaded grass areas for families to enjoy and make a day out.

About The Role

As an operations (lifeguard) team leader at Newstead Outdoor Pool, you will support with day-to-day operations and oversee the lifeguard team, including recruitment, training, and scheduling. You will confidently support plant room operations and contractor systems, ensuring adherence to aquatic safety protocols like GSPOs, and leading the Health & Safety Committee. Responsibilities also include managing incident reporting, conducting operations audits. Additional duties include:

• General leadership within the operations/lifeguard team including assisting the Operations Coordinator in managing and developing the team
• Rostering and paying of staff
• End of month reporting & invoicing
• Coordinating with other centre leaders

This is a Part Time position with a hourly rate of up to $33.87 + super.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have strong admin skills, show attention to detail, and have experience leading a small team. You will have experience working as a duty manager or lifeguard and able to commit to a regular pattern of work, whilst being able to include additional rostered hours during seasonal peak times.

• HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
• Aquatic Pool Lifeguard Certificate

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Experience performing pool lifeguard and duty manager duties
• Understanding of risk management & basic OHS systems
