Job summary

CatholicCare NT in Darwin seeks a dedicated MBCP Team Leader to oversee the Darwin MBCP, Co-responder model and Men’s Court Support Programs. You will lead and supervise staff, applying professional knowledge to improve practice and coordinate with associated women’s services to reduce risk.

The role requires qualifications in Men’s Behaviour Change, substantial team leadership, and familiarity with DFV frameworks, CBT/ACT/DBT therapies, and Motivational Interviewing.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications in Men's Behaviour Change.
  • Significant experience in relevant practice and team leadership.
  • Knowledge of DFV response frameworks, risk assessment and safety.
  • Understanding of therapy modalities: CBT/ACT/DBT and MI.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Darwin MBCP, Co-responder model and Men’s Court Support Programs.
  • Supervise program staff and drive quality practice development.
  • Collaborate with women’s services and CCNT to mitigate risk and support clients.
  • Ensure safe and culturally appropriate service delivery with Indigenous communities.

About the Program

CatholicCare NT (CCNT) is a not-for-profit organisation providing social services and programs to individuals, couples, families, children, groups, schools, and agencies across the Northern Territory. CCNT’s Men’s Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) programs include the Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) in Darwin and Wadeye, Co-Responder Program (CR) in Darwin as well as the Respondents Early Assistance Legal Service programme (court support) for adults who use violence in Darwin and Katherine. The primary goal of these programs is to provide an intervention with adults who use violence in order to reduce the risk of harm for women and children. The MBCP and CR operate out of Darwin. The MBCP provides outreach to the Darwin Correctional Centre, Wadeye, and the Tiwi Islands. The programs are designed to support men who are engaging in violent, abusive, or controlling behaviours, helping them to change these behaviours through group sessions and individual case management. Participants receive education, strategies, support, and referrals to other services. The MBCP team also collaborates with NT Legal Aid to provide social support for men in the court space who are impacted by Domestic and Family Violence (DFV). These programme aims to prevent violence and promote healthier, more respectful relationships.

About the Role

The MBCP Team Leader is responsible for the leadership and delivery of CCNT’s Darwin MBCP, Co-responder model and Men’s Court Support Programs in Darwin and Katherine. This position has a particular focus on leading and supervising program staff, applying professional knowledge and support, supporting quality practice development and continuous improvement. A key aspect of the role is ensuring a collaborative and integrated approach with associated women’s support services and other CCNT services to mitigate risk and keep those using violence in view. Program portfolios may be subject to change within the contract period.

What we are looking for
  • Qualifications in Men's Behavour change and relevant experience
  • Significant experience in relevant practice and team leadership.
  • An understanding of therapy modalities, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), as well as interviewing approaches like Motivational Interviewing (MI).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DFV response frameworks, risk assessment and safety,
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills encompassing report writing, case note writing and supervision and the ability to communicate effectively with managers, staff and stakeholders across a range of diverse cultural groups and settings.
  • Experience in recording and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data in line with program requirements and leading a team to do the same.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with Indigenous people.
