Bespoke Careers is seeking an Engineering Team Lead in Sydney to guide a small team delivering high-traffic, customer-facing web experiences at scale. You will own the platform's technical direction, improve performance, and shape architecture while balancing hands-on leadership.

The role emphasizes team development, collaboration with Product/Design, and driving measurable improvements in velocity and quality.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Engineering Team Lead, Technical Lead, or hands-on Engineering Manager.
• Strong expertise in React.js, Next.js, SSR, and web performance.
• Experience with architecture, APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS).
• Proven ability to lead and develop engineers and collaborate with Product/Design teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of 4-5 engineers.
• Own the technical direction of a high-traffic web platform.
• Improve Core Web Vitals, SEO, latency, and overall performance.
• Drive engineering velocity and remove blockers.
• Lead architecture and system design discussions.
• Enhance technical standards, code quality, and engineering practices.
• Manage technical debt and cross-team dependencies.
• Collaborate with Product and Design teams.
• Mentor engineers and advocate pragmatic tech trade-offs.
• Explain risks and options to senior stakeholders.

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Team Lead to guide a team of 4-5 engineers in delivering high‑traffic, customer‑facing web experiences at scale. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a critical web platform, shape its technical direction, and drive meaningful improvements in performance, architecture, and engineering effectiveness.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands‑on leadership position, balancing technical involvement with team development and strategic decision‑making.

Responsibilities

As an Engineering Team Lead, you will:

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of 4-5 engineers.
• Own the technical direction of a high‑traffic web platform.
• Improve Core Web Vitals, SEO, latency, and overall web performance.
• Drive better engineering velocity and remove technical blockers.
• Lead architecture and system design discussions.
• Enhance technical standards, code quality, and engineering practices.
• Manage technical debt and cross‑team dependencies.
• Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams.
• Help the team make pragmatic technical trade‑offs.
• Communicate technical risks, options, and recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should have:

• Proven experience as an Engineering Team Lead, Technical Lead, Lead Software Engineer, or hands‑on Engineering Manager.
• Strong expertise in:

  • Server‑Side Rendering
  • Core Web Vitals
  • Web performance and scalability
  • High‑traffic customer‑facing platforms
  • System design and architecture
  • APIs and distributed services
  • Cloud platforms (AWS)
• Direct experience in people leadership and team development.
• A track record of partnering with Product and Design teams.

Additional experience with GraphQL, micro‑frontends, modern application security, and AI coding tools is highly desirable.
