Position Information

Birraleegal Goondi Preschool is an Aboriginal identified preschool with a strong connection to our local community. It is part of the P-6 Walgett Connected Community Primary School and is an essential foundation to our formal education K-6. The preschool implements the SWAY program which develops Sounds, Words and Yarning to provide early speech intervention and phonemic awareness. This program runs in parallel to our Early Years Learning Framework. The successful candidate will need to work with local community groups and families to encourage and strengthen Aboriginal student participation in the program as per the Connected Community Strategy.

Connected Communities is a strategy to drive improved educational outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people. The strategy positions schools as community hubs that broaden the influence of the community and school leadership in the delivery of key services that support children and young people from birth through school into further training, study and employment.

Our public preschool is an approved early childhood education and care service, operating under the requirements of the National Quality Framework. We provide a safe, secure and quality play-based and intentional educational program to support every child to make a strong start in life and learning and experience a successful transition to school. We are committed to protecting and promoting the safety, wellbeing and rights of all children. This role includes clear child safety responsibilities, including mandatory reporting, and requires a strong commitment to maintaining a child-safe environment by recognising, responding and reporting concerns and taking part in ongoing training and improvement of child safe practices.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach preschool holding an ACECQA approved teaching qualification, with working knowledge of and ability to implement the National Quality Framework including Early Childhood Education and Care National Law & Regulations and National Quality Standards.

Demonstrated commitment to protecting and promoting the safety, wellbeing and rights of all children.

Demonstrated capacity to plan and implement a preschool program based on the Early Years Learning Framework, including a thorough understanding of age-appropriate pedagogies including play-based learning and intentional teaching.

Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students and families from diverse backgrounds through excellent communication, time management and interpersonal skills to manage the complexity of a preschool setting.

Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a whole school team, including specialist school-based staff and external agencies, to design, implement and evaluate effective programs transitions for students into primary school.

A commitment to the Connected Community strategy when embedding cultural responsiveness into the preschool program.

Conditions

A Relocation Support Payment of $5,000 up to $8,000 will be available for eligible applicants.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
