Job description

Full-time, permanent position commencing in 2027

Canterbury College is an Anglican ELC to Year 12 school whose academic record stands among the strongest in Queensland. In 2025, more than half of our ATAR-eligible Year 12 students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above. That result was produced by a community that expects its students to excel in the classroom while they compete in sport, perform on stage, serve others and lead among their peers.

Canterbury serves the fast-growing corridor of Logan, the northern Gold Coast, the Scenic Rim and southern Brisbane. We are a Microsoft Beacon School and a member of Round Square, and everything we do is directed toward graduates who are World Ready. Mathematics sits at the centre of that ambition. Our students go on to medicine, engineering, economics, data science and the physical sciences, and they reach those fields because their mathematics teachers asked a great deal of them.

The role

We are seeking an outstanding Mathematics teacher to join our Senior School, teaching across Years 7 to 12, including Mathematical Methods. You will join a collegial, high-performing faculty that sets demanding standards for itself and shares its practice openly.

In this role you will:

  • Plan and deliver rigorous lessons aligned with the faculty program, teaching students to reason, solve problems and think mathematically with confidence.
  • Build an inclusive and demanding classroom in which every student is challenged and supported to achieve their potential.
  • Lead assessment moderation that produces consistent, comparable and defensible judgements of student learning.
  • Serve as a Form teacher within the Senior School vertical House pastoral model.
  • Work closely with students, parents and colleagues to strengthen a positive learning community.
  • Contribute to our Communities of Practice, sharing expertise and raising student achievement across the College.
  • Maintain accurate and timely attendance and achievement records, and write informative reports for students and families.
  • Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional learning and College-wide initiatives.
  • Model the standards of dress, language, conduct and communication we expect of our students.
  • Contribute to professional networks and build links with the wider community that improve teaching and learning.
What you will bring
  • Demonstrated success teaching Mathematics from Year 7 through to Year 12 Mathematical Methods.
  • A strong command of inclusive teaching practice, including the purposeful use of learning technologies and assessment to create an environment that is both supportive and challenging.
  • Proven classroom management and communication skills.
  • A genuine commitment to working within an established and collaborative team.
  • A willingness to contribute to the College's broad co-curricular program.
  • Professional conduct that earns respect for yourself, the College and the teaching profession.
  • Experience teaching Mathematics across Years 7 to 12.
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.
