Job summary

Youth Off The Streets is seeking a passionate Generalist Teacher to join our not-for-profit in NSW on a permanent full-time basis. You will build strong relationships with vulnerable young people and differentiate learning to meet diverse behavioural and educational needs.

Applicants should be calm, structured, adaptable, and committed to trauma-informed practice. NSW Department of Education registration (NESA) and child safety checks are required.

Qualifications

• Ability to differentiate learning for students with a wide range of academic, behavioural and social needs.
• Experience and/or familiarity with trauma-informed practices in schooling.
• Commitment to child safety, mandatory checks and procedures under child protection.
• Respect and effective engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culturally diverse communities.

Youth Off The Streets is a not‑for‑profit organisation supporting young people to build safer, healthier futures. For 30 years, our special assistance schools have provided flexible education for students who don’t thrive in mainstream settings.

Established in 2018, The BowenCollegein Maroubrais a coeducationalspecialistschoolsupporting students in Years9–10.

Our school programs aim to empower young people with learning strategies to make informed decisions towards creating a positive future.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Generalist Teacher on a permanent full-time basis.

You're a calm, structured and adaptable teacher who enjoys building strong relationships with young people. You're confident differentiating learning for students with a wide range of academic, behavioural and social needs, and you can flex your approach to keep students engaged and feeling safe.

What You Will Bring:

• Ability to work with young people who have been marginalised in previous schools.


• Flexible to teach across subject areas.


• Previous experience working in a trauma-informed setting or with students who have experienced trauma is preferred.


• An understanding of the principles that underpin a child safe organisation including mandatory child protection procedures.


• Demonstrated capacity to respect and work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people of diverse cultural backgrounds.


• Additional experience in outdoor recreation, performing arts, creative arts, sport, fitness or other extra curricula activities are desirable qualities.


• Experience and proficiency in G‑Suite and Google Classroom is desired but not essential.


• Current registration with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
