The School

South East Language Development Centre and Outreach Service offers a specialised program for students with an identified Developmental Language Disorder. In 2015 it became an Independent Public School. The school has cohort of students and the Outreach Service works with other mainstream schools across the state. The Language Centre is staffed by a team of educators who continue to update their skills through an ongoing series of relevant professional learning opportunities. The Centre has on staff Speech Pathologists who work with parents and teachers in assessing, evaluating and planning appropriate programs for the students.

We are located over three campuses where we share facilities with local primary schools enabling children from the Language Centre to integrate with the primary school children for play, sporting events, assemblies and other activities. Our campuses are co-located at Cloverdale (Belmay PS), Maddington (East Maddington PS) and Armadale (Kingsley PS).

The Role

The successful applicant would play an important role in supporting students with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and complex communication, behavioural and self-regulation needs. You will ideally use your expertise in language development and evidence-based practice to develop and implement targeted interventions, individual education plans and language support strategies that enhance student learning, communication and social-emotional wellbeing.

You should work collaboratively with teachers, education staff, speech pathologists and other allied health professionals to build staff capacity, deliver professional learning and implement effective, language-focused classroom practices. The role may also involve administering and interpreting oral language assessments, supporting behaviour management and self-regulation planning, and using a range of ICT tools to enhance learning outcomes.

Working across multiple campuses within a specialist education setting, you should display initiative, sound judgement and leadership in supporting day-to-day school operations. You would build positive relationships with families, schools and external agencies, while contributing to safe, inclusive and language-rich learning environments. This is an opportunity to be part of a highly collaborative team committed to innovative, research-informed practices and delivering quality learning experiences for students with special needs.
